From the photographer’s perspective it was a beautiful tree, old and almost dry but very photogenic (you can see it here). Perhaps it was becoming a hazard and they cut it. This is Devonport’s North Head. Rangitoto Island in the background.
It is a shame to see the tree is gone. It looks to have been very old. I wonder. It doesn’t look like a hazard to me. There seems to have been a split in it but it seems pretty solid. How many trees fall on people’s heads anyway? I do think our city is guilty of this too. They are afraid a tree will fall down and hurt somebody so they cut it down leaving wildlife without homes and food in most cases.

Very sad to see. What’s the story behind this?
Sorry for the tree, it was really photogenic.
