From the photographer’s perspective it was a beautiful tree, old and almost dry but very photogenic (you can see it here). Perhaps it was becoming a hazard and they cut it. This is Devonport’s North Head. Rangitoto Island in the background.

  • It is a shame to see the tree is gone. It looks to have been very old. I wonder. It doesn’t look like a hazard to me. There seems to have been a split in it but it seems pretty solid. How many trees fall on people’s heads anyway? I do think our city is guilty of this too. They are afraid a tree will fall down and hurt somebody so they cut it down leaving wildlife without homes and food in most cases.

Very sad to see. What’s the story behind this?
