Graffiti its a sensitive issue in Auckland these days. As a matter of fact I, at least haven’t seen any good piece of graffiti in quite a while, but tagging has become rampant. Just about a month ago a young boy tagger was stabbed to death by an enraged home owner. A couple of days later in Wellington a tagger stabbed a man who confronted him.
The piece of graffiti above was painted on top of a beautiful graffiti artwork, a photo of which I posted back in October last year. I don’t know when was this painted or if it is related to both stabbings, but the image itself is telling.
Today is a theme day for the daily photo community and the theme is Graffiti. Please take a moment to visit the other participating cities:

That is the tragedy. The graffiti is a symptom of so much that is wrong in our world. I hope your sadness ends as soon as possible. Here is my CDP: Street Art entry (too late for the list). Thank you.
very good blog, congratulations
regard from Catalonia Spain
thank you
it looks nice, but you mentioning the stabbing, that sounds serious.
Happy Theme Day!
It would be good to keep a stronger distinction between the terms “Graffiti(art)” and “Tagging”. Certainly this is a strong and well-executed (and photographed, btw) piece of art, and it is annoying that it is lumped in with the gormless and destructive tagging. Tagging is typically an act of the intellectually challenged, immature and idiotic. I’m really happy that there is an increasing focus on tagging, as it is immensely destructive in many communities.
Wow. Now that’s violent. I wish these obviously talented graffiti artists would use their talents in a more positive, less vandalous way. It must be very difficult and expensive for property owners to have to deal with graffiti.
Cool photo! Lots of colours and full of energy.
Happy Theme Day!

I will confess I don’t know what tagging is but it doesn’t sound like anything you should kill someone over…..sheesh…..most of the graffiti like yours seems to be gang related or am I wrong?
That’s a sad story and it’s true, unfortunately. I do not see many graffiti art work other than commissioned art work. Well tagging can be seen here and there, but I guess it will become a graffiti in any time soon.
I know Auckland has/had a project for paint those electric transformer box around the city to some cultural theme art work. I hope, those are not destroyed by tagging/painting over.
It is a very creative expression of underlying feelings….as art often is!
Too bad these people don’t put their creativity to better use.
some ominous warnings here
and my anti-spam word was “red”!
Nice piece of art but the story with the picture does make you stop and think.
Wow, a very powerful graffiti because of the strong colors and the man, willing to fight.
comics art !!
Tagging is bad enough but physical assault because of it is the next unacceptable step. Great photo, nice work with the light… as usual here !
Yes, it’s aggressive, isn’t it? Perhaps that’s what street art has to be at times.
Violence everywhere…And so many ways to express it…
Sobering story. I think tags are an amazing art form, though annoying to alot of people for sure. But I prefer the stencil art.
Say g’day to Green Boy
