Each year an estimated 200,000 people gather at the Auckland Domain to watch the Skycity Starlight Symphony, and the domain lawns become one huge picnic area. The Skycity Starlight Symphony is one massive performance which includes the Auckland Philharmonia, the Skycity Massed Choir, the Auckland Youth Choir, the Viva Voce Choir and a variety of performers. The show culminates with a laser show and fireworks.
The audience are invited to make a gold coin donation or purchase a balloon or light stick. Every year a charity is selected to be the recipient of any funds raised. This years funds will go to the Starship Foundation towards providing insulin pumps for children living with Type 1 Diabetes.
